Lady Aré sipped her morning coffee as she read her book. Her latest pick was an old favorite, the Art of War II: The Revenge (written and edited by herself, of course). It was shaping up to be a simple and peaceful morning, something the kingdom’s head of faith had grown to appreciate.
Nearly finished with her coffee, Aré absentmindedly turned on the news. It paid to be informed and, more so, to see what was making the rounds and staying in the public eye. Usually some trashy gossip or scandal, but sometimes it was actually worth paying attention to.
“…To think our fair lady would have such skeletons in her closet,” the news lady with those ridiculous pyramid-shaped hair buns stated.
“It’s always the last person you expect,” her co-anchor with the crown of bird feathers added.
“Actually, she was the first person I expected,” the pyramid buns anchor replied.
“Lord, what are they on about now,” Aré rolled her eyes, regretting her choice already. “Oh well, might as well see who’s got egg on their face today,” she took her last sip of coffee.
“Honestly, I think Lady Aré should fire her fashion coordinator if they let her out in public wearing that,” the bird feather news lady commented.
“What!” Aré spit out her coffee as a familiar picture of herself flashed on the screen. A certain picture she had taken great lengths to have scrubbed from public memory. It was so many years ago, she was old enough to know better, but damn, she had her pride too. More importantly, she was dead certain she burned every copy of that photo, erased every digital version, and “persuaded” every journalist and news outlet to “forget” the event had ever happened. So how? How!
“Once again, we must thank Lady Aphros for providing us with these rare photos,” the pyramid lady announced. “Coming next, what is hidden beneath Lady Ze’s armor? We still don’t know, but here’s an artist’s interpretation.”
“Aphros!!!!” Aré’s screams echoed across the city. On an unrelated note, Aphros believed she could flee the palace long before the consequences of her actions would arise. She was wrong.
