This was where Medy was at her happiest. A cup of tea, a collection of snacks, a cheap novel about a perilous and unusual romance, the curtains drawn open slightly to let in a crack of sunlight and her freshly laundered pajamas. Nothing could make this day better, and nothing could ruin it, either. She was protected by the sanctuary of her tiny room, and no one (would dare) intrude.
“Jace, no!” Orion’s voice could be heard outside the window.
“Jace, yes!” Was the reply, followed by a loud crash and whimper of pain.
“Well, as long as they’re not dragging me into their stupidity today,” Medy moved to sip her tea.
“Jace, move it’s still going!” Orion warned.
“Crap, crap, crap!” Jace exclaimed as whatever it was made a progressively louder rumbling sound.
“Hm?” Medy looked up, suddenly concerned by the approaching sound. Alas, she realized it too late.
“Oh no!” Orion screamed as something slammed into Medy’s wall, knocking her over.
“Well, well,” Medy laid unflinching on the floor of her room, tea spilled on her pajamas, her snacks scattered and smashed, and her book embedded in the wall. “I’m going to kill both of them,” she rose up like a slasher villain and approached her window with intent.
“We’re in so much trouble,” Orion’s panicked voice echoed from outside.
“You mean you’re in trouble,” Jace deflected, “or you would be, but it’s the middle of the day. No one’s in their room right now. I’m getting out of here, and nobody will know a thing.”
“But isn’t it Medy’s day off?” Orion commented.
“So?” Jace didn’t get what the problem was.
“I think that’s her room…” Orion trailed off as he spotted Medy crawling out of her now smashed window like horror movie monster. “Jace…” His voice died in his throat.
“Oh, what, you’re afraid she’ll be mad?” Jace rolled his eyes. “Assuming she is in the room, I just said nobody will ever know what happened, so it doesn’t…what are you looking at?” He turned around. “Oh, hi cousin, how’s it go…?” Was all he managed to say before Medy pounced on him like a wild tiger.
