“Behold, the Bocchinoko!” Lady Aphros presented her pet. It was like a large snake, although instead of being long, it was very wide. A little chubby, one might say. It also had a dull pinkish color to its scales and somehow had a bored look in its eyes.

“You mean, a tsuchinoko?” Serena asked.

            “No, a Bocchinoko,” Aphros huffed.

“A lonely child...Child of lonely?” Serena attempted to translate the name.

“No, she’s my little Gotoh-Chan,” Aphros beamed as she cuddled with the reptile. Gotoh-Chan didn’t appreciate the gesture and wriggled in her grip.

“Lady Aphros, if you don’t mind me asking, why are you showing us your pet?” Orion inquired.

“To expand your appreciation of the animal kingdom, of course,” Aphros hummed. You see, if you rub a Bocchinoko’s belly, it’ll sing a beautiful song.” The noble rubbed Gotoh’s underside, eagerly awaiting the creature’s supposed musical side.

“PYAAAAAH!” Gotoh let out a high-pitched squeal more fitting for a mouse than a snake.

“Such a beautiful song,” Serena lied.

“Ah, poor thing must be terrified,” Aphros cradled her pet, who continued trying to squirm out of her grip.

‘I wonder why?’ Serena rolled her eyes.

“Lady Aphros, is it alright?” Orion showed concern.

“Oh, don’t worry,” Aphros slacked her grip, “this one is an anxious little thing and-” Spotting its chance, Gotoh sprung from the noble’s grasp and slithered away as fast as it could. “Huh? Gotoh-Chan, come back!” The blonde chased after her pet.

“Serena, we should-” Orion moved to help.

“No, Orion,” Serena stopped him. “I think it’s best we leave Aphros to sort out her own problems.”

Meanwhile, Gotoh had almost made it to the palace gardens. If one could understand the reptile’s thoughts and translate them to something similar to human speech, it’d probably sound something like this.

‘This lady is crazy! This place smells funny! Freedom!’

With the dirt of the gardens finally in sight, Gotoh leaped forward, only to have a chain wrap around its body and yank it back into Aphros’s arms.

“You naughty snake, no running off again,” Aphros scolded. “Who knows where you could’ve ended up? There are germs out there.” The noble carried off the squirming snake. Unfortunately for Gotoh, Aphros would not take her out of her cage again for quite a while.

Taking care of a pet is a great responsibility and one must be aware of the animal's needs, both physically and emotionally.

Author's Note: This has to be the most blatant and direct reference/meme I've ever written. If you can guess to what, you get a no-prize.

Until next time, Read, Comment and Enjoy.
