Maid in Fantasy - Hair Care Today? Hair Care Tomorrow.

It had been a miserable, tedious day, so Serena did what she always did when she was upset, she tended to her hair. The maid treated her long, raven locks like precious gold ever since she was forced to shave them off last year. Since then, her only condition for continued service to the palace had been keeping her hair untouched (not that she really had a choice, but you have to set boundaries somewhere), no matter what Lady Aré said.

Serena wrapped her hair around her fingers as she traced the edges for split ends. Then, she took her scissors and began her methodical process of trimming each strand of damaged hair. Time slipped away as she snipped away every frustrating split.

Serena didn’t have the time and energy for a proper hair care routine anymore. Sometimes, it felt like a small miracle when she had time to brush it. But Serena would never let these brief moments she did have the time slip away. Honestly, with all the havoc and near-death experiences the maid dealt with daily, it was a genuine miracle her hair wasn’t in a worse state. But that didn’t stop the maid from cringing from her hair feeling so gross all the time. Those long, tedious days (like today) where she could feel every split end, rough patch, tangle, and knot. It drove her mad.

‘It all felt so simple and effortless before,’ Serena lamented. ‘Okay, maybe not effortless, but still this didn’t feel like so much of a chore…and now I’m wondering how long before I cut it short out of laziness.’ Her concentration broke as the maid sighed. She put her scissors down and laid her head on her makeshift vanity. She felt her leg brush up against a box stored beneath, filled with expensive hair care products. Only a few spots in the box were empty, and everything inside was coated with a thin layer of dust. The box still had the “from: Lady Aphros, for doing such a wonderful job” sticker on it.

‘Lord, I was so happy when Aphros gave me this,’ Serena recalled, ‘if only I knew how little I would use it.’ She also needed a better place to store it, but she sure as heck wasn’t keeping it in the communal bathroom down the hall. Too many sticky fingers (read: Medy), plus she didn’t need to give the other workers more reason to suspect Aphros was favoring her (not that they were wrong, but it’s not like Serena wanted all this attention from the noble. In fact if she never spoke to the blonde again it would be too soon).

‘Damn it, I’m better than this, I won’t let this exhaustion beat me. I’m getting back on my routine,’ the maid declared to herself before glancing at the clock and realizing how late it was. ‘Starting tomorrow…’
