Strange Sci-Fi Tales #2 - Fly on the Wall [#49]

~~~~
            Jamison sat on a chair in the shared balcony of his apartment building. The view that overlooked the city of Padora was his favorite sight. The city was filled with flying cars, building-to-building rail system, and countless robots. It was the central hub for all things advanced and futuristic. Jamison loved the city and felt a strong sense of pride in being one of its citizens. However, there was one thing that bugged him.
            For some reason, numerous flies liked to congregate on the balcony. It wasn't like there was any trash or discarded food to attract them their either. They just swarmed the location. Jamison was sick of them, they'd always buzz away before he had a chance to swat them. However, this time he was ready with a rolled up newspaper and an unaware target which had landed on a table next to him.
            "I wouldn't do that if I were you," a woman's voice called out from the far side of the balcony. The young woman emerged from inside the building and walked up to Jamison.
            "What do you mean Erica?" Jamison asked, "it's an obnoxious pest."
            "That's not actually a fly," his neighbor explained. "If you kill it they'll send several more, plus a bill for the damaged property."
            "You've got to be kidding me," Jamison groaned. He looked at the small insects closer. Closer inspection revealed the flies were made of plastic, and they had tiny cameras for eyes. The realization caused him to jump in his seat.
            "Don't worry they're not here to spy on you," Erica chuckled.
            "Then why are they here?" Jamison inquired as he shielded himself against the flies with his newspaper.
            "You really don't want to know," Erica warned. Jamison groaned again but accepted her explanation.
