“What
do you think of the space station, Reggie?” She asked the taller man.
“Eh,
it’s nothing special,” Reggie replied flatly.
“What?”
She exclaimed, “we’re literally smack dab in the middle of the biggest
crossroad in the galaxy. Think of the culture, the mingling aliens, the
interesting characters.”
“Alice,
it’s nothing more than a glorified rest stop,” he stated. “You’d find just as
much cultural exchange at a gas station on Earth.”
“Don’t
be like that Reg,” Alice retorted, “haven’t you been to the bar yet? Plenty of
strange and unique faces come through it every day.”
“Such
as?” Reggie raised an eyebrow.
“Just
last week one of those aliens with a hundred eyestalks came in and ordered a
cup of coffee,” she explained. “I passed him the cup, and he drank the whole
cup through his eyeballs!”
“That’s
not interesting, that’s disgusting,” he countered.
“I’m
not done yet,” she assured him, “so one of those aliens with the crown of horns
on their head walked up to him and questioned his taste in beverages. The
eyestalk guy spat some coffee at him through one of his eyes, like it was a
squirt gun.”
“That’s
a different kind of disgusting,” Reggie replied, “are you sure those were
eyestalks?”
“Well
they kept looking at me and blinking so,” Alice trailed off.
“So
how did the horn guy react?” Reggie inquired.
“His
horns grew three sizes, and he threatened to beat the eye guy within an inch of
his life,” she continued. “Before the bouncer could stop them, the eyestalk alien
said something really nasty and the horn guy backed off.”
“What
did he say?” Reggie asked.
“I
don’t know, I don’t speak Spanish,” she explained, “it sounded terrifying,
though.”
“Why
would he be speaking Spanish? Better yet, how could you tell it was Spanish?”
he pointed out.
“Well
I heard him say amigo in there a couple times,” Alice revealed, “also I think
the horn aliens tend to speak Spanish too. I just put two and two together.”
“Regardless,
an almost bar fight between a couple of disgruntled aliens does not an
interesting place make,” Reggie stated.
“You’re
impossible,” Alice sighed, “come on, let’s go down to the bar, we might catch a
real fight this time.”
“Whatever,
as long as you’re buying,” Reggie shrugged while Alice made a frustrated face.
“Fine,”
she relented, and the pair headed towards the bar.
